The Arsenal Therapy Podcast – Benfica 1-1 Arsenal (017)

Welcome to The Arsenal Therapy Podcast, a dedicated show about a club I love, Arsenal Football Club.

This was arguably one of the biggest games of Arsenal’s season, but the performance failed to reflect the importance. Arteta made the decision of playing the same 11 players who swept Leeds aside on the weekend but failed to replicate anywhere near the same type of performance against a resolute Benfica side who were determined to stay in this tie. Benfica were set up brilliantly with a block of 5 defenders organised to sit back and frustrate Arsenal who failed to make good use of the opportunities they got. Aubameyang could have had a hat-trick with an early shot wide from yards out, which was the theme of the evening. However, despite a flat and abject performance, Arsenal looked the more dominant side throughout the course of the 90 minutes but failed to capitalise and go into the second leg with a lot of work to do, should they make it to the last 16 stage of the competition.
